Most Unusual Baby Boy Names 2017

Now that 2017 is coming to an end, we can reflect back on the year. The good, the bad and the ugly. We also know that many celebs gave birth, many have also gotten married, and also split up.

If you had a baby, you may be curious to know about the other babies that were born this year- and what kind of names their parents ended up using. There are some names that never go out of style for boys such as Aaron, Jonathan, and Michael (well those ones are Biblical names and they always stick around).

If you had a boy, you may have used a name that is not unusual, or a name is unusual but at the same time not unique enough to turn some heads. And perhaps you decided to give your son a very unique name. There is always that risk that he could be made fun of, however parents usually have a sentimental reason for naming their kids unique or unusual names- or they may simply like it.

Or if you want to get pregnant with a boy in 2018, below is a list of unusual boy names that were used frequently in 2017:

Archie

When you think of the name Archie, you may think of Archibald or Archer. However, you may not think of the name Archie as a name on its own. Well it is, and it has been one of the most unusual names used in 2017. The name Archie is a Scottish name, as it means true and bold.

Archie also means “bald” as it was introduced from Germany and England during the Norman conquest. Therefore, the Scots interpreted the bald as the shaven head of a monk, so that is where it came from.

Archie is used more in England, as there was a radio program called Educating Archie that was done by a ventriloquist's dummy. Archie was also a philosophical cockroach that was created by American writer Don Marquis.

Arlo

The name Arlo was one of the most unusual baby names for boys used in 2017. Arlo is an English baby name and it means fortified hill. Arlo in Latin also means strong and manly.
An example of the name Arlo used is Arlo Guthrie, who was an American folk singer and songwriter.

Theo

The name Theo is an unusual name that was used in 2017, and it is of Greek origin. Theo means God given, and in German it means the bold people.

You usually think of Theo as a short form for Theodore, which is also reduced to Teddy, but Theo is an independent and unusual name.

It is not a name that was used much in the past at all, unlike the others listed above that were used occasionally. Those who are into science fiction, or who have an affinity to outer space may be more inclined to use a name like Apollo for their son.

The name Titan is one of the most unusual names for boys that was used in 2017, and it is of Greek origin, and has the meaning of defender.

Other couples have been also naming their sons more and more after deceased or living celebrities such as Hendrix, Elvis, or Nixon- however this trend is new but has been happening prior to this year alone.

Most couples do want to be careful when naming their kids due to the fear of possible ridicule, however with unusual names being more trendy than ever- not many kids will be mocked due to their names by future classmates unless they have a name that was popular in the 1970’s- but no longer an ‘it’ name. Therefore, parents need to take into consideration with what is trendy for the sake of naming a child a name that won’t be a target for bullying. Unique very well may be the way to go- though some names such as Biblical names will never go out of style.
